School-Based Health Center updates

School-Based Health Centers will be closed next week during Spring Break (April 10-14).

 

Centers will reopen to all APS students April 17. Call 330.543.7242 after Spring Break to schedule an appointment for one of the days below if your student needs a sports physical, well-visit or vaccines:

  • Mondays from 3-5:30 p.m. at King CLC
  • Thursdays from 3-5:30 p.m. at Voris CLC

Governor Mike DeWine visits Helen Arnold CLC!

Governor Mike DeWine visited Helen Arnold CLC Tuesday, April 4 to promote the Science of Reading initiative and visit classrooms. View photos from his visit!

Be Kind 330

  • Do you haiku? APS students, tell us what kindness means to you for a chance to be published in the Expressions of Kindness Be Kind 330 Poetry Project Book. Submit poems and a signed parent/guardian permission form to your teacher.
  • There’s more to love than just romance. Barber and Helen Arnold CLC girls share acts of kindness to each other at the KINDNESS IS LOVE luncheon.

Autisim Acceptance Month

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn and behave. April is Autism Acceptance Month and an opportunity to highlight the disorder, advocacy and other means of support. Autism acceptance is different from autism awareness because it encourages us to honor the strengths of our neurodiverse community. Learn more through these hashtags and resources:

  • FREE food distributions - Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank has many food programs to help Akron-area residents who are in need of food assistance. Find an upcoming pop-up pantry or food pantry near you.
  • FREE monthly internet - Qualifying families can participate in the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) to receive FREE high-speed internet and a discounted tablet from Rural4G. Check to see if your family is eligible, enroll or learn more.

Fun things to do!

  • FREE Easter trunk or treat event - Attend Just a Dad from Akron's FREE Easter trunk or treat event April 8 from 1-3 p.m. at Schlup-Pucak Wilson Funeral Home (788 Kenmore Blvd.) FREE candy, activities and more! Open to the public. Learn more. 
  • Want to become a park ranger? - Attend the Summit Metro Parks career exploration program April 19 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Sand Run Metro Park Ranger Headquarters (2360 Sand Run Parkway). The program is for those ages 14-20. 
  • "16th Annual Family Reading Festival" - April 22 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Akron-Summit County Public Library (60 South High St., Akron). Enjoy activities, music and FREE books! View the schedule of events or learn more. 
  • Running for a Good Cause 5K run and walk event - April 22 from 9-10:30 a.m. at Beech St. Trail. Help raise money for APS athletic programs and the APS Athletics Hall of Fame. Register and learn more.
