Recoloring the winter blues
As the end of January arrives, we are now in the throes of what many behavioral science experts consider the darkest and most depressing time of the year. While an occasional calamity day might lift the spirits with an unexpected day off, we also have to find ways to emotionally overcome the winter blues as Jack Frost nips at our noses. Committing ourselves to spending time accessing precious sunlight and exercise, ensuring we get enough sleep and recentering ourselves to mindfulness all can uplift us to trudge through the winter doldrums. A few more recommendations:
Free food distributions - Summit County Job and Family Services, the WIC office and the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank are providing free food and infant formula Jan. 26 from 7:45-9:45 a.m. at Arlington Plaza and Feb. 16 from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. at The Remedy Church.
Free tax preparation - United Way of Summit & Medina is offering free appointments to help families prepare state and federal taxes. Learn more and schedule online or call 211.
Drive to Succeed Scholarship - APS students can apply for a chance to receive free driver training.
