Gaming our mental health

These cold and blustery winter days mean most of us are staying indoors. We pass the time by watching television, consuming Internet media and playing video games. Video games have been a controversial pastime since their earliest days of Pong and Tetris. Behavioral health experts caution that they reduce physical activity, may have some linkages to violence and aggression and diminish social relationships. Other research counters that video games can improve visual motor coordination, promote cooperative play, build problem-solving skills and help us discover a community of similarly interested peers. You can learn more about video games and mental health through the following, and as always, supervision and moderation are the key!
